Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Inc. (BNE), one of the country's most recognized privately held Restaurant companies, announces today that it has signed a 25-store deal to open Moe's Southwest Grill in any of the following areas: Winston-Salem / High Point Triad area, Newport News / Williamsburg area and in Richmond, VA. Less than three years old, Moe's Southwest Grill has become the country's hottest Fresh Mex quick casual concept, outpacing category leaders in McDonald's Chipotle and Wendy's Baja Fresh. "We are moving at a pace of three store openings a week," explains Matt Andrew, Vice President of Finance, Raving Brands (formerly Wow Brands), parent of Moe's. "We anticipate hitting 250 restaurants by the end of 2004, which is 50 percent faster growth than the category's leaders."

For Boddie-Noell, this isn't the first time it has moved quickly on a brand with tremendous potential. It was founded in 1962 as only the second franchisee of Hardee's. Today it is recognized as one of the nation's largest privately held franchisees in the quick service category and owns 320 Hardee's.

"It's exciting for us to add the Moe's Southwest Grill concept to the BNE family," says Bill Boddie, president and CEO of Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Inc. "It's a part of the fast-casual segment that seems to be very popular with families today. And it gives us an opportunity to do new things and broaden our approach to the eating public." Its success is based in part because of Moe's atmosphere, which draws rave reviews from its fans who enjoy the eclectic, upbeat personality with music from The Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix piping through speakers along with artwork from local artists. Customers are also greeted with a loud "Welcome to Moe's" upon entering, the trademark "call" you will hear on its web site and mimicked by adoring customers.

"Boddie-Noell has one of the most reputable names in our industry," explains Martin Sprock, founder and chief, Raving Brands. "When you have that caliber of restaurant company interested in your brands, at the scale of 25 restaurants, it's something worth boasting about for the Moe's brand." Appealing to a more health-interested public, Moe's food is so fresh; there are no freezers or microwaves at any of the locations. There's no animal fat or lard in any item on the menu and everything is made fresh daily. Moe's offers burritos, tacos, quesadillas and salads with a choice of grilled tofu, chicken or steak. Moe's also offers a few vegetarian items, a kid's meal and adult beverages.
